OK, it's late, and it's going to be brisk, to say the least. But I do feel that something should be written about this stuff, both to capture some part of that presentation and as a spur to further consideration of these ideas. And yes, apologies for having neglected the blog lately, I'm a new daddy, and mostly sleep deprivation (and sheer lack of time) prohibit me from spending as much time here as I'd like. But, that said...
The panel we (Celia, Craig Sherman, and myself) did at AGDC this year was on generally on Engagement (Craig's term), with myself doing a bit on the importance of Inspiration, Celia doing a presentation on Emergent game play, and Craig talking about Engagement as a design principle of Gaia Online. I think the unifying theme, which is very important, is that people are not engaging in these experiences just to have "entertainment", there's more involvement, at least in some of the very successful worlds.
