Yes Facebook has lost their way. They sold out to the advertisers which will in the long run be their demise. What used to be a pleasant site where one could keep track of their friends "status" now has become bogged down with endless spam from third party applications. The senseless stream of surveys, Mafia wars, and other posts overflow your wall quickly pushing down any "status" out of sight.
Even worse, people are encouraged not to post their status, rather they are asked "what is on your mind?" A totally different thing which is often more valuable to Facebook advertisers than anyone else.
